After spending hours scouring maps, walking guides and guesthouses on the internet I came up with the "Church house inn" in Holne and a hike to "Petres boundry stone" out on the moor. As usual our drive down took hours via a stop at a pub called "The Green Dragon" owned by a wood carver!
The first part of the walk was very pleasant. A stroll down "cardiac hill" to Scorriton and then a gradual uphill path through woodland with streams flowing and nearby deer frollicking...seemed idylic....
...But that didn't last.....We met some guys who had just come down "Pupers Hill" clad in day-glo waterproofs. They told us it was a bit rough up on the moor but we didn't believe them. Thought they were a bunch of w*nkers for wearing all that gear. There was us, jeans, trainers and Nick wearing Simon's casual jacket. Not exactly well prepared. Once onto the moor the weather changed immediately and it became a battle against the elements. Discovered that jeans are not in fact the best trousers to wear when it's raining as they cling to your legs....the guys were right!! We could hardly see a thing but luckily Nick had a compass on his phone otherwise we'd probably still be there now!!
The whole walk.....how brave were we huh!...Only real men would dare to go out in such conditions!
The next day was a contrasting affair...nice weather, easy walk along the river Dart and four hours in the "Tavistock Arms" in Poundsgate!!
