Final hurrah with the kids in July

Mia told me about this festival so I booked a hotel and took the kids by train out into the sticks....It was roasting when we arrived and it was hard to find any enthusiasm to do any of the "activities" on offer. However we did come out with a couple of DIY T-shirts.

The "Shangri La" hotel is high up in the mountain and provides Madam here with a fine view...

Jing-i enjoying herself too.

Some of the other activities were making giant bubbles and trying to lift bottles with a piece of string and a hook...it was all a bit Butlins but if they were having fun who am I to say...

Next day was off to Luo-Dong and the fun park....luckily there was water everywhere as it was incredibly hot

<a href="ilanpanorama.wmv"> <img src="ilangargoyles.jpg" border="0" align="left" width="160" height="120" vspace="10" hspace="20" /> </a> A quick view of what went on.....the kids had run off and I was left alone. However, this being out in the sticks, I actually had people come up to me and ask to have their picture taken with me!!

The culture show

<a href="ilanfiredance.wmv"> <img src="ilangargoyles.jpg" border="0" align="left" width="160" height="120" vspace="10" hspace="20" /> </a> There was a "world" dancing stage too. Here we had the Sri Lankans whose torches had nearly gone out thanks to the compere blabbering on for too long!
<a href="ilankidsdance.wmv"> <img src="ilangargoyles.jpg" border="0" align="left" width="160" height="120" vspace="10" hspace="20" /> </a> But for some real dancing you had to go to the disco beat water jet stage.....!!!

We also took a boat trip to a "traditional" Chinese village where the kids could try their hand at handicrafts. We actually saw loads of fish leaping out of the water on the way

here they are engrossed in their work

We ended up spending 2 days at the festival and only when we were leaving did we discover a huge climbing frame that Nina would have loved...Needless to say she was gutted, but they had a damned fine time anyway.

I've got loads more pages of pics so click on any of Nina's faces to see them
